Stowmarket under 7’s match report 13/11/16 versus Colchester Under 7’s

The scene was set after the Remembrance Service, the air was cold and the floor was wet and muddy as the Stowmarket A under 7’s stepped onto the pitch to face Colchester A under 7’s. The whistle went to start the game and we were treated to some fast fluid rugby of the highest order for players of this age . It wasn’t long before Stowmarket were on the score board, a bounding run down the wing from Noah Wooldridge saw him get tagged just short of the try line but a pinpoint off load to Ethan Baker saw Ethan run over the line, and it was first blood to Stowmarket.
There were some wonderful tags from both Colchester and Stowmarket in what was then a tight contest for the next few plays but then a fantastic run from Harrison Older from his own half saw him run the entire length of the left wing to put Stowmarket in a commanding position. This try was shortly followed by another try from Harrison Older who received the ball from George Skilling to run the entire length of the other wing for his second try of the game. Colchester then came back in to the game with 2 very good individual tries, to bring the game almost level. Just before the half time there was just time for one more score, Harrison Older again running freely got tagged and then offloaded to Noah Wooldridge who with a wiggle of his hips and a dodge to the left sent the defender the wrong way to score his 1st try of the game. Half time came and time to review the 1st halfs events .
The second half kicked off and a regenerated Colchester came out and got a quick try, but with Stowmarkets attacking flair very evident, Ethan Baker ran through the middle of Colchesters defence, only to be tagged a yard short of the line, with his quick thinking he popped the ball up for Noah Wooldridge to have the simpliest of tries his 2nd of the game. George Skilling started the next attack by tagging the Colchester player who dropped the ball allowing Noah Wooldridge to pick up and run straight through the Colchester defence as if they weren’t there, scoring his 3rd try of the game. The next score was again a well worked team try, a move started by Ethan Baker who passed to Noah Wooldridge who was tagged at full speed by a stubborn Colchester defence, but with his offload it opened up the space to allow Harrison Older to run through and grab himself another score.
Colchester weren’t out of this game yet, they worked the ball across the pitch to their player on the wing who ran through the Stowmarket defence for a try in the corner. However Colchester’s good work was undone by their own mistake a dropped pass allowed Harrison Older to pick up and run the length of the pitch to put down in the corner for his 4th try of the game, not wishing to be outdone by his team mate, Noah Wooldridge also picked up a loose ball in the dying seconds and after running from left to right and dodging a few Colchester defenders he ran into the corner to score his 4th try of the game.
A nice shake of the hands and mutual appreciation for what had been a very well played game from Stowmarket A team played in a nice spirit of the game which befitted the earlier Remembrance Sunday service which the boys had attended.
This game showed a huge improvement on the form that we showed at the start of the season. The Stowmarket players have started to show a team spirit and a much better ability at all aspects of there game, particularly including all players when passing and running and a real desire to get themselves over the gain lines but whilst also looking for team mates a runs.
We also had 3 other games the details of these games are below.
