Sudbury and Felixstowe

Our 1st games of the season came today against Sudbury and Felixstowe, all our hype from the previous few training sessions had been geared to this moment. As our young U7s stepped onto the pitch in there Stowmarket kits, we as coaches and players did not know exactly what to expect as this was a first for all of us.

I think it's fair to say the 1st few plays from us was like watching a rabbit in headlights, we had forward passes, we had quick passes to thin air, and players running out of the pitch and before we knew it Sudbury had scored 3 quick tries. We quickly gathered ourselves and started to focus more and grabbed a few tags and had a few thundering attacks particularly by Ethan Baker who ran past 4 defenders only to drop the ball on the try line.

Half time came and we found ourselves 5 tries down, after the halftime break and a chat with the boys about where they were going wrong the boys came out with a fantastic attitude and we managed to get ourselves back in the game scoring 2 great individual tries to Sudburys 2 tries, a much better defence and attack.

After having a bit of a practice whilst Sudbury and Felixstowe played there 1st game, we came out refreshed for the 2nd game against Felixstowe, having made quite a few mistakes in the 1st game this was a chance to rectify things!

So after showing some fantastic defence from all our players, we had another couple of individual tries from Ethan Baker who ran a long way up the pitch and this time put the ball nicely down to score a try on 2 occasions, then we had our best team try of all the games - Woody Stocker ran up the right wing and seeing he was going to get tagged he off loaded the ball with great precision to a shouting Noah Wooldridge who ran through a gap in the Felixstowe defence to go down in the corner, the referee even commented at this point saying what a wonderful team try this was.

We played each of the teams another time, and we improved on our tackling as the games went on, we also ran in a number of tries both great individual tries and a few nice team plays. A nice introduction to the game for us both as new coaches and new players, after seeing the improvement from the first game to the last it gives us great encouragement for our season to come!
