In a riveting display of rugby, Stowmarket Rugby Club emerged victorious with a commanding 53-24 win over Bury St Edmunds in a pre-season showdown that electrified the field. The resounding cheers of the crowd bore witness to an extraordinary performance, as Stowmarket's players showcased their mettle and dedication, executing their game plan with precision and passion.
Four quarters of rugby saw our Stow men line up in new combinations and positions as they looked to build ahead of the season opener in 3 weeks.
Amidst the fierce competition, it's important to extend a heartfelt note of gratitude to Bury St Edmunds for their warm hospitality, as both teams engaged in a spirited contest that not only highlighted their competitive spirit but also emphasized the unity and mutual respect that define the rugby community. Whilst our sides do not face each other during the season, we look forward to following your successes and working with you to sustain and strengthen the strong rugby pedigree of Suffolk Rugby.
Our head coach Fred Wenham commented -
“It was a great first outing for the boys and a good opportunity to see some different combinations and new players in action. From a coaching perspective, the most pleasing thing for me is that we saw a lot of what we’ve been instilling over the past 6 weeks of pre season out there on the pitch in a competitive environment. Also, as a coaching team, we were delighted with the work rate and relentlessness nature of our game. It’s a fantastic start and strong bench mark for our progress, but there’s plenty more work to do and we’ve still got a long way to go!”
