You work out which is which but a Congratulations is in order

A message from Head Coach Matthew Edison:

It gives me great pleasure to announce Dan Garrard as Stowmarket's 1st XV Captain for the season of 2020/21.

I am very excited to see Dan at the helm of this fantastic club. Dan has proved himself a leader in previous seasons and the accolade of 1st XV captain is thoroughly deserved. Dan has been vital member of the 1st XV for a long period of time, proving himself year upon year on the field. As well as this Dan has respect amongst fellow players, coaches and supporters alike, which makes him a great candidate for the position. Not only this but Dan has shown that he is all about the development of the club for the better, from the 1st XV to the youth section to the ladies team, this shows a true clubman and again a great quality to have in a captain.

It may seem counter intuitive to appoint a captain for a season that is yet to start and currently has no official start date. However as a coach I believe the opposite. We need good leadership now more than ever as it is when times are hard that captains and leaders come into their own. I have no doubt that Dan is up to the job and will strive to better himself, the team and the club.

Congratulations Dan!

Training
It has been a strange start to the season to say the least, you could say we haven’t started and there currently is no season. However that would do a disservice to the hard work and preparation that the senior playing group has been putting in over the last 4 months.

I truly believe that had the season started on time as a playing group we were better prepared than we ever have been, however it was not to be. Despite the continuing challenges that we keep facing as a playing group, the boys keep adapting and responding positively to every challenge we face. How many clubs can currently say that they still have 30+ boys turning up to training every week?

So we have extra time…..this has provided us as a coaching team to change our plans and work on some key factors of our game in greater detail, it has also allowed us to continue to work on the fitness element of our game so that when we return to rugby we will be ready.

I am so proud of all of the senior playing group and their attitude in the last 4 months, well done to all involved. Remember training is still going ahead once a week on Tuesdays, there is also touch on a Saturday. If you are even contemplating running around I urge you to come down on a Tuesday and/or a Saturday.

1st XV Head Coach
